Bobby Santos NASCAR Whelen Modified Series Advance: Thompson International Speedway
Race: Budweiser 'King of Beers' 150
Track: Thompson International Speedway
Date: June 30, 2011
Tommy Baldwin Racing development driver Bobby Santos will compete in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) at Thompson International Speedway (Conn.) this Thursday, June 30th. He will pilot the No. 4 Mystic Missile Dodge in the series' fifth race of the 2011 season.
THOMPSON INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY– Santos has 18 starts at Thompson International Speedway (TIS) with an average finish of 16.3. He has collected two wins, six top-fives, 10 top-10s and three poles. Santos also holds the qualifying record of 18.237 (123.376 mph) at the Connecticut track. He won his first NWMT race at TIS in 2007 and made his racing debut at the track at just four years of age.
LAST RACE AT THOMPSON–Santos started off the 2011 season at the top of the charts by winning the pole and setting the TIS track record at April's Icebreaker. After starting first, Santos aimed to wheel the No. 4 Mystic Missile Dodge to a second consecutive Icebreaker win, but an engine failure on lap 16 ended the Mystic Missile's day early with a 33rd-place finish.
LAST RACE RECAP: MONADNOCK – The Franklin, Mass., native started 13th for the Monadnock 200 and struggled with the handling of the No. 4 Mystic Missile Dodge. Santos fought his way into the top-10 halfway through the race, but an accident with Ron Yuhas, Jr. on lap 116 knocked the car's front wheels out of alignment. Santos was able to limp the damaged No. 4 Dodge home to a 15th-place finish.
IN THE POINTS – After four races, Santos sits in eighth place in the NWMT Point Standings. Santos is four points behind fellow TBR development driver Erick Rudolph in seventh place and 102 points behind first.
USAC RACING– Santos again played double duty last weekend at Iowa Speedway racing for his family owned No. 98 Santos Motorsports team. Santos started third in the USAC Midget race, but an ignition problem at the beginning of the race caused Santos to drop all the way to last at the start. Fortunately, Santos was able to get the engine running at full power and drove back through the field for a third-place finish. In the Silver Crown race, Santos was able to fight back from a disappointing 16th–place qualifying run to finish second.
Bobby Santos Quotes:
ON THOMPSON – "I'm definitely excited about going to Thompson. I enjoy Thompson. It's a place I grew up going to, and I've been pretty lucky to run well there over the past couple years in the Modifieds. It's a track I look forward to every year."
ON BOUNCING BACK – "I'm excited we are racing right away after how bad we ran on Sunday. I'm excited to get going again. A good finish can carry momentum for the entire season, but a few bad runs in a row can do the opposite, so were definitely looking to win at Thompson. I think the team needs it, especially after the way we ran at Monadnock. We're going to go there and try our hardest to win Thursday."
