Santos Keeps Top Spot In USAC Pavement Points with Win at LOR
CLERMONT, IND. (August 19, 2011) – Bobby Santos wheeled his family-owned No. 98 Santos Motorsports Sprint car to his second victory of the 2011 season last night at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. The win extended his point lead over the competition in the AMSOIL USAC Pavement Sprint Car Series standings.
Santos qualified second for the Thursday Night Thunder race and started the 30-lap feature event from the sixth position. He drove up to second by lap seven and set his sights on the leader, Chris Windom.
A caution on lap 17 allowed the 25-year-old racer to race Windom on the restart. Santos utilized the outside line to drive passed Windom and take the lead during the first green-flag lap. The Franklin, Mass., native led the remaining 13 laps and took the checkered flag.
The win increased Santos' lead in the AMSOIL USAC Pavement Sprint Car Series point standings with five events remaining in the season.
"It was a good day. The car was good right away in practice. We qualified well but had to start sixth. We got up to second really fast. The first lap after the yellow, we got the leader, and then we led from there. It was a good run and a good day to finally win a race. It was exciting to get a win for my dad. It feels like it has been forever since I have won anything."
Santos will race at Bristol Motor Speedway next week for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event. He will try to hold onto his point lead in the AMSOIL USAC Pavement Sprint Car Series driving his Santos Motorsports Sprint car September 8th at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.
